A Village Built From Two Settlements
Rockton formed from Stephen Mack Jr.'s 1835 river-confluence settlement, Macktown, and William Talcott's water-power-driven village on the Rock River's east bank, founded the same year; the two merged after an 1851 bridge washout and incorporated together as a village in 1872.
Heating Systems That Don't Match Across the River
Because the two halves of town developed independently before merging, heating and cooling infrastructure installed on the Macktown side of the confluence doesn't necessarily match the vintage of the Talcott-founded east-side core, even on adjoining streets. Regional winters bring roughly 13 snow days in a typical January, which is enough to expose an undersized or aging furnace fast.
